Compensation:$60-90K (depending on experience level) + benefits (after 90 days) + commission*compensation package to be explained in great detail at the time of the interview

Travel Requirements:Must be able to travel to US to meet with customers, and therefore eligible for a E2 Work VISA (requirements include possessing a degree/diploma, US/Can/Mex citizen, possess a passport and ability to clear a Police Clearance).Traveling will commence on/after the first six (6) months.

Required Hours: The Company follows a work schedule that’s tailored to meet its clients’ manufacturing needs (i.e. 7:00am to 4:00pm in some cases) but may be required to do some work in the evenings and weekends or outside normal working hours.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Technical Sales Engineer (“TSE”) plays an integral role in advancing the company’s vision of achieving world-class excellence and leadership in the field of automation integration.

The role is responsible for generating new business opportunities, nurturing leads, and managing key relationships to progress the sales pipeline, driving the entire sales process forward. To support generating and developing business, the TSE works closely with existing experienced TSEs and other industry professionals to learn and apply company’s proven sales strategies, technical product knowledge, and customer engagement practices.

The TSE will gain exposure to a diverse client base across North America in industries such as Automotive, Food and Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Consumer Products/Electronics, Packaging, Defense, Metal Fabrication, Metal Casting, Road Infrastructure, and more. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop technical sales expertise while contributing to company’s long-term growth and market leadership.

Under the supervision of the Director of Sales, the duties and responsibilities of the Technical Sales Engineer include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Generate leads and sales opportunities through research, prospecting, networking, and outreach (both cold and warm outreach via phone, email, etc.) with new and existing clients
  • Qualify leads by evaluating potential needs and aligning them with the company’s solutions and services
  • Works to maximize proposal profitability by selling projects and labor services at the highest price possible, while obtaining best supplier pricing when applicable
  • Coordinate and schedule client meetings according to engagement practices and quotas, and prepare and deliver company and proposal presentations on-site, with travel to client locations being an essential part of the role
  • Independently assume, manage, and develop key strategic accounts, following the Mentorship period
  • Prepares cost sheets and technical proposals, compiling information from multiple sources (e.g., estimates and assumptions, vendor pricing, etc.), ensuring completeness and accuracy of information prior to submission to the client
  • Consults with all levels of the Engineering department to estimate technical requirements for cost sheets and proposals (i.e., hours, equipment, sub-contract services, technical notes and assumptions, etc.) and review documentation in advance of submission to the customer (i.e., evaluations, engineering studies, etc.)
  • Drives and coordinates the project hand-off meeting with team, at time of PO receipt from client.
  • Participates in regular Resource Planning Calendar meetings and prepare/provide input as needed
  • As required, supports PM in maintaining regular and ongoing communication with clients and other relevant stakeholders on topics related to project timing, open issues, engineering changes, etc.
  • Works with vendors to gather pricing and lead time on components and sub-contract services
  • Negotiates commercial matters and changes in timing issues with clients
  • Regularly communicates with strategic vendors to foster relationships and to identify new mutual business opportunities
  • Track leads, outreach activity, opportunities, and proposals using NetSuite ERP/CRM systems as the primary tool for managing and tracking the selling process, ensuring information entered is up to date for all action taken
  • Skill development through the Training and Mentorship Program and informal on-the-job training relating to machine vision, controls, robotics, and other automation systems
  • Provide regular updates on sales activities, opportunities, and pipeline status to the Director of Sales or other stakeholders as required
  • Collaborate with the sales team to share insights, strategies, and best practices;
  • Collaborate with other departments to learn the operations, ensure a seamless sales process, and ensure client satisfaction
  • Participates in trade shows, recruiting events, and other similar events to further promote company
  • Monitors and communicates observed market / client expansion opportunities, as it relates to company’s overall sales strategy
  • Assists with special assignments / high-level initiatives related to company’s overall sales strategy that will contribute to the overall success of the Sales Team
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree/diploma (Mechatronic, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or other related), or a Business degree/diploma with a keen interest in technical sales
  • One (1) to Two (2) years of relevant work experience in automation or other related industries
  • Experience in cold calling/outreach, opportunity generation or relevant sales experience
  • Keen interest or knowledge in machine vision systems, PLC, electronics, robot programming, computer programming and automation
  • Strategic thinker with a growth mindset and the ability to problem solve
  • Motivated self-starter who thrives individually and in a team environment
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and polished presentation skills with the ability to build relationships with various stakeholders and clients
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and CRM software
  • A strong existing network or client-base in industrial automation is considered an asset
  • Possess a valid G Class driver’s license and reliable vehicle, as the ability to travel with their own vehicle to the clients’ locations is a significant and inherent component of the job
  • Ability to travel regionally and internationally, including crossing the US/Canada border on short notice as required
  • Able to meet the requirements of an E2 Visa and Police clearance upon hire
