Epia Neuro is seeking a Technical Project Manager, Software & Firmware to drive planning and execution for our implantable brain-computer interface platform in Alameda. You will translate technical priorities into actionable plans, manage schedules and risks, and partner with engineering leads to keep development, integration, verification, and release on track.

Epia Neuro is a neural technology company developing intent-driven systems designed to restore function and independence for people living with neurological conditions. The Role

The software behind our platform spans embedded firmware, patient- and clinician-facing device applications, machine learning, and cloud infrastructure for model training and data management.

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager, Software & Firmware to drive planning and execution for software and firmware projects supporting our implantable brain-computer interface (BCI) system. You will work closely with engineering leads to turn technical priorities into executable project plans, manage schedules and dependencies, surface risks and tradeoffs, and keep projects moving through development, integration, verification, and release.

As Epia’s development program grows, this role has the opportunity to take on broader ownership across our software program.

What You’ll Do

• Own project planning and execution for software and firmware initiatives, from kickoff through development, integration, verification, and release.
• Build and own project schedules, milestones, dependencies, and risks. Keep plans current as priorities and technical realities change, drive replanning when needed, and elevate early when dependencies or risks threaten a milestone.
• Run the planning and delivery cadence using Jira and Confluence, including sprint planning support, milestone tracking, dashboards, and clear project status reporting to engineering and company leadership.
• Partner closely with Software and Firmware engineering leads to translate technical priorities into executable plans, surface tradeoffs and resources constraints, and drive timely resolution of blockers. Technical leads own the technical decisions; you own the plan and its execution.
• Drive the planning and completion of regulated software deliverables with Quality and Regulatory, including IEC 62304 lifecycle documentation, cybersecurity documentation, reviews, and traceability. Quality owns the process; you make sure engineering delivers into it.
• Manage cross-functional dependencies with our Hardware and Research program management counterparts, Quality, Regulatory, and other teams, ensuring software and firmware projects remain aligned with broader device, clinical, and regulatory milestones.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of technical project management experience on product-development teams building software, firmware, or embedded systems, including integration, verification, and release.
• Demonstrated ability to drive technical projects from planning through execution, including schedule ownership, dependency management, risk management, and escalation.
• Proven ability to partner effectively with technical leads and cross-functional teams while keeping clear ownership of the plan and schedule.
• Fluency with Jira and Confluence, or equivalent project management tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. You can turn a messy technical status into a clear summary that engineers and company leadership can act on.
• Comfort with ambiguity. We are a startup and many of our processes are being built as we go. You want to help build them, not just inherit them.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated medical-device software development, including IEC 62304, design controls, design history file deliverables, or equivalent experience in another regulated or safety-critical industry such as aerospace or automotive.
• Project management experience with embedded or firmware development, including hardware-dependent scheduling and HW/SW integration.
• Exposure to medical-device cybersecurity documentation, FDA premarket cybersecurity guidance, or SBOM management.
• Experience supporting FDA submissions such as IDE, PMA, or 510(k).
• Familiarity with machine learning development workflows or cloud infrastructure.
