Technical Lead Manager, Research and AI for Dexterous Manipulation

Role

As a Technical Lead Manager and senior research leader in robotics and AI, you will join our R&D team working on novel robotics capabilities with real-world impact. You will collaborate with researchers and engineers developing machine learning, reinforcement learning, and foundation models for AI-enabled robotics in manipulation, perception, and motion planning. You should have strong coding skills, hands-on robotics interest, and enthusiasm for enhancing robot capabilities for real-world tasks. Your role involves developing systems for better perception, understanding, and interaction, enabling advanced manipulation and societal applications. Working with engineering teams and industrial partners, you will translate prototypes into practical applications. You will lead projects, set directions, and seek innovative solutions in AI robotics.

  • Lead R&D on sensor-guided dexterous manipulation for industrial robots.
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain software in simulation and real robots to enhance manipulation capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Google DeepMind Robotics, universities, and research labs to deploy solutions.
  • Transition prototypes to real-world applications with engineering teams and partners.
  • Document and communicate your work internally and externally.
  • Set strategic directions and drive solutions within your team or project.
  • Work closely with a distributed team across three continents.
Skills you will need to be successful
  • PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Robotics, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Python.
  • Experience leading and collaborating with teams to develop robotic systems.
  • Knowledge of robotics and industrial automation.
  • Strong motivation to work with partners and cross-functional teams.
  • Networking within academic and industrial research communities.
Skills that will differentiate your candidacy
  • PhD in Robotics, CS, Machine Learning & AI, or similar.
  • Experience developing full-stack robot applications, from algorithms to actuators.
  • Expertise in robotics control, AI, planning, motion control.
  • Experience with software design for hardware and real-time systems in C++.
  • Knowledge of motion control, sensor-based control, trajectory generation, optimization.
  • Experience with robotics simulation and sim-to-real approaches.
  • Expertise in motion planning, kinematics, trajectory generation.
  • Experience with computer vision and dexterous manipulation tasks.
  • Experience collaborating with academic researchers and large software systems.
