The role requires a seasoned engineer with 10+ years in enterprise software and 5+ years in technical leadership, strong debugging and collaboration skills, and a focus on DevOps and CI/CD modernization.

Qualifications

Position Summary:

407 ETR is seeking a highly skilled and hands‑on Sr. Software Engineer to support the design, development, and modernization of the Strata platform, a mission‑critical revenue generation system supporting tolling operations and customer transactions. The successful candidate will play a key role in technical modernization initiatives across C++, Java/Spring Boot services, API development, Oracle database integration, DevOps enablement, and platform engineering. This individual will provide senior technical expertise in application design, development standards, technical reviews, troubleshooting, and production support while remaining actively involved in software development activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and modernize legacy and modern C++ applications supporting the Strata platform.
• Refactor and enhance existing codebases to improve maintainability, performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Design and develop RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Support service-oriented architecture modernization initiatives and enterprise application integration.
• Establish and promote software development standards, design patterns, and coding best practices.
• Design, develop, and optimize Oracle database interactions, including SQL tuning, stored procedures, and performance improvements.
• Collaborate with Database Administration teams on Oracle transformation and modernization initiatives.
• Participate in solution design, estimation, planning, development, testing, deployment, and production support activities.
• Perform complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remediation of critical production issues.
• Support the implementation and modernization of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and DevOps practices.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to improve release management and operational efficiency.
• Promote automation, Infrastructure-as-Code principles, and engineering best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex software initiatives and modernization programs.
• Act as a senior escalation point for application support issues and lead corrective action planning.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• 10+ years of software development experience in enterprise environments.
• 5+ years of experience leading technical design and development for complex software initiatives.
• Expert-level experience with C++ development.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java development, Spring Boot, and REST API design.
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming, software architecture, and design patterns.
• Experience developing multi‑threaded and high‑performance applications.
• Strong experience working with Oracle Database and SQL performance optimization.
• Experience with source control systems, preferably Git.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and DevOps practices.
• Proven experience supporting large‑scale, mission‑critical enterprise platforms.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across development, infrastructure, and business teams.
