Job summary

Bombardier seeks a Technical Expert Senior in Engineering - Avionics Systems to lead avionics development, testing, certification, production, and in-service support for aircraft programs at its Dorval site. The role emphasizes safety, DO-178, DO-160, ARP4754 standards, and successful integration across AFCS, navigation, displays, and data systems.

The position requires extensive cross-functional collaboration with suppliers and certification authorities, and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• University degree in Electrical, Electronics, Software, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in avionics.
• Strong knowledge of multiple avionics systems; industry SME in at least one subdomain.

Responsibilities

• Define and manage system and subsystem requirements to meet safety, certification, and aircraft design objectives.
• Collaborate with system suppliers and interfaces to ensure smooth integration on the aircraft.
• Define installation of avionics systems on the aircraft and oversee integration of AFCS, communications, navigation, displays, and data systems.
• Write, conduct or witness development and certification tests on rigs and aircraft; review and approve results.

What are your contributions to the team?

In your role as Senior Technical Expert, you will be responsible for performing various tasks related to the development, testing, certification, production, and in-service support of Avionics Systems of state-of-the-art business aircraft.

More specifically:

• Define and manage the overall systems and subsystems requirements to ensure safety, certification & aircraft design requirements and objectives are met.
• Work with the system suppliers as well as other interfacing suppliers and disciplines on the program to ensure the system is properly designed to be integrated smoothly on the aircraft.
• Define the installation of the avionics systems on the Aircraft.
• Be responsible for the timely integration of one or few systems, such as AFCS, Communication (VHF, HF, SATCOM, Datalink), Navigation (ADF, VOR, ILS, DME, TCAS, Transponder, IRS, GPS, FMS, Weather Radar), Displays (EFIS, EICAS, HUD, SVS), Information/Maintenance & Recording (IMS, OMS, Data load, CVR, FDR, AHMS), on the aircraft.
• Write, Conduct or Witness development and certification tests on rigs and/or the aircraft.
• Review, analyze and approve the test results.
• Conduct and support ARP4754 system and aircraft verifications and validations.
• Manage, review, and approve the deliverables of the Avionics System Suppliers.
• Liaise with Certifying Authorities and/or support their delegates in achieving system certification.
• Support the Final Assembly Line and In Service Aircrafts for any design related issues and bring them to closure.
• Participate in the development and implementation of tools and processes as needed by the function to meet our organizational objectives.
• Act as a technical advisor for the management team in one or multiple subsystems

How to thrive in this role?

• You hold a University Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• You have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the field.
• Strong knowledge of multiple Avionics Systems.
• Considered to be an industry subject matter expert in at least one subdomain of Avionics Systems.
• You have knowledge with the specification, design, integration, test and certification of Avionics systems on aircraft.
• You understand how these systems integrate and interact to the overall aircraft.
• You have the ability to influence the technical direction of a solution.
• You are familiar with the industry standards DO-178, DO-160 and ARP4754 (Asset)
• Knowledge and/or Experience on Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) systems (Asset)
• You have strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• You have excellent problem-solving skills, work planning structure and prioritization.
• You have the ability to work well in a team environment.
• You are willing to travel.

This position has a hybrid work schedule and requires mandatory 2 days per week in the office.
