Position: Technical Drafter, Product Development & Design

Location: 388 Applewood Crescent, Concord

Date: February 7, 2025

Reports to: Designer

JOB SUMMARY

As part of the design team, you will assist in drafting, designing, and developing custom aluminum fenestration systems for high-rise and commercial projects from concept to site, focusing on supporting standard and non-standard designs, including design proposals, new die creation, and product development. Working closely with senior designers, engineers, and project managers, you will create detailed drawings, technical documentation, and 3D models using CAD software while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

Health and Safety

• Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe work environment, and promptly reports any incidents, accidents, or near misses.
• Works in compliance with the Health & Safety Act and regulations including using any equipment, protective devices or clothing required.
• Reports any known workplace hazards or violations of the Act to the employer or supervisor.

Technical/Function

• Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings, including fabrication drawings, cut sheets, and BOMs for R&D projects.
• Assist in designing and developing custom aluminum fenestration systems under the supervision of senior designers.
• Create and revise mock-up drawings for design validation, testing, and performance evaluation.
• Participate in design reviews with internal and external stakeholders, providing technical support when required.
• Assist in building and reviewing design mock-ups for validation and testing in the design lab.
• Ensure that designs comply with industry standards and manufacturing capabilities.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by collaborating with production, site personnel, and service teams.
• Assist in new product development by preparing technical documentation and supporting design revisions.
• Maintain an organized database of design files, templates, and standard details.
• Assist in preparing design presentations, reports, and technical manuals for existing and new products.
• Participate in feasibility studies and performance testing to ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and drafting best practices to enhance design efficiency.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Internal/External Customer Service

• Works closely with both internal teams and external clients, offering expert advice, guidance, and sharing best industry practices to ensure successful project outcomes and maintain strong, collaborative relationships.
• Promotes and demonstrates Toro Core Values by leading by example and collaborating with internal customers and stakeholders to improve customer experience.
• Maintains excellent relationship with Toro's suppliers & vendors.

Administration

• Handle various administrative tasks, including organizing documentation, maintaining project records, coordinating meetings, and ensuring smooth communication between teams and stakeholders.

Other

• Perform additional tasks as required, supporting the team, and ensuring the smooth operation of projects and activities as they arise.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

• 2-5 years of experience in technical drafting in the window wall or related industries.
• 1-2 years of experience in AutoCAD and Inventor is a strong asset.
• Experience in window wall, curtain wall, or façade design is an asset.

SKILLS

• Strong knowledge of building codes, product performance requirements, and industry standards/certifications.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving, organizational skills, and high-quality standards.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment and as an independent contributor.
• Experience managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and taking designs from concept to completion.
• Ability to maintain ownership of work while ensuring attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
• Solid understanding of interdepartmental processes and how key departments collaborate to achieve project goals.
• Excellent team player able to communicate effectively and work well with internal and external stakeholders.
