Job summary

Big Viking Games is seeking a Technical Director, Live Games to own the architecture and engineering standards across our live titles and shared platform services. This senior, hands-on leadership role involves ~75% coding and ~25% technical leadership.

You will collaborate with the Head of Engineering to drive modernization, ensure system reliability, and advance agentic tooling in production environments. Hybrid work in Toronto is expected three days per week.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with hands-on work in production systems.
• Experience owning architecture or technical direction in live-service games or real-time systems.
• Experience building with agentic coding tools or tool-calling systems that automate engineering work.
• Proven ability to align engineers on technical direction and manage complex architectural changes.
• Experience across multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality and consistency.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction across our live games and shared platform services.
• Lead architectural changes and ensure alignment among technical leads and senior engineers.
• Drive modernization while preserving stability of revenue-generating systems.
• Lead adoption of agentic tooling and build AI-enabled workflows into engineering pipelines.
• Collaborate with Head of Engineering and Engineering Manager on strategy and priorities.
