Niche Technology designs, develops, supports, and implements an advanced police Records Management System (RMS). Our current offering, NicheRMS, covers the full breadth of police operations as standard, out-of-the-box functionality that is available now and in live production use. It is a single, integrated operational police information management platform—all police data is organized into a single, accessible source with a set of core building blocks. This is our sole focus and line of business.

Niche Technology Inc. is a privately-owned Canadian corporation, established in 1992, that is owned and managed by its founders.

Niche has subsidiaries in the UK and the US serving projects in the UK, Canada, Australia, and the US.

Our Winnipeg headquarters is hiring a NicheRMS Business Analyst. The initial focus of the successful candidate will be to work within the NicheRMS product team to improve user efficiency and address other user experience (UX) concerns.

Responsibilities (full cycle):

  • Collect customer feedback, observe real-world application use and inspect documented business processes to identify and analyze non-standard user practices, configuration issues, inefficient user interface design, and other sources of NicheRMS UX complaints.
  • When possible, suggest out-of-the-box (OOTB) solutions that can be self-served by the customer, whether it be through platform configuration, process changes, or customer-side development.
  • Work with NicheRMS software developers to define changes that improve NicheRMS UX, with a focus on reusable OOTB solutions.
  • Assess training materials and other documentation to ensure that it promotes standard and efficient use of NicheRMS, and work within the product team to improve these sources of information.
  • Ensure that NicheRMS is accessible to all users and conforms to applicable accessibility guidelines such as WCAG.
  • During the discovery process, take full advantage of all opportunities to become familiar with or learn about the existing business processes of potential new customers and convince potential new customers to provide as much detail as possible about their current business processes.
  • Document the current state processes in a standardized format. This Current state process documentation will be used in the Project Implementation process. Document all learnings from the discovery process in a way that can be used to guide the customer selection process and statement of work.
  • Identify areas of alignment/misalignment between the customers current state processes and Niche “Out of the box” (OOTB) functionality.
  • Begin discussing the OOTB philosophy with the potential new customers.
  • Provide opinion on whether the potential customer is a good match for NicheRMS to inform the Bid/No Bid decision.
  • Assess all misalignments to determine potential workarounds or development load impacts.
  • Attend sales demos at the appropriate time in the sales process and produce Demo reports.
  • Support sole source statement of work writing.
  • Identify OOTB alignment concerns" and identify areas of alignment/misalignment between the customers current state processes and Niche 'Out of the box' (OOTB) functionality.
  • Fully document Current state business processes
  • Track hours spent on this activity.
  • Fully document future state business processes.
  • Minimize Niche’s exposure and risk on project. Identify risks weekly to the customer and to Niche management.
  • Focus on OOTB application use.
  • Write development specifications with extreme detail.
  • Delivery in 1 and ½ builds.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager for change/ticket management process.
  • Understand build scheduling for the customer.
  • Review/screening of tickets that are being submitted by customers.
  • Review specifications prepared by the customer team and add details as needed.
  • Make sure specifications align with the documented business processes.
  • Guide customers to prepare better specifications.
  • Production of development notes for the developers.
  • Test and review of build deliverables.
  • Set and manage client expectations.
  • Develop lasting relationships with client personnel that foster client ties.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to identify and evaluate issues/needs and propose alternative solutions.
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
  • Build a knowledge base of each client's business, organization and objectives and provide the details to the Project Manager as needed.
  • Mine for good news stories that can be used by the Sales team.
  • Arrange and participate in ongoing, regularly scheduled teleconferences with the customer.
  • Create minutes for all meetings and forward them to the customer and the Niche project manager.
  • Attend existing customer sites as needed.
  • Participate in the User Conferences and Workshops.
  • Assist with messaging for trouble shooting.
  • Assist Customer Support Manager with the preparation of a customer for a site visit.

Technical:

  • Able to install and update your own laptop, both for Operating system and Office Applications and the Niche RMS software and database.
  • Possess general understanding in the areas of application programming, database, and system design as well as our capabilities.
  • Understand Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client/server architectures.
  • Extend technical knowledge through courses and other.

Security Clearance
