Responsibilities :
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager and / or Project Manager in Toronto Water, the Data Centre Specialist will be the subject matter expert and lead, working in collaboration with other team leads, providing technical guidance, overall strategy, planning, design, overseeing execution and commissioning of the Data Centre / Computer Room upgrade project. The specialist will execute the following :
- Conduct assessment (availability, site / location selection, uptime, capacity, efficiency, etc.) for existing mission critical Data Centre / Computer Room facilities for Toronto Water.
- Determines requirements, researches, evaluates, recommends, designs, develops and / or acquires, implements and provides technical and business support for retrofit, upgrade or new build Data Centre / Computer Room to meet client and business requirements.
- Prepares RFI / Q / Ps and other formal project documents (e.g. SOWs, MOUs, SLAs); leads the development of consultant requirements and Requests for Proposals, undertakes briefings and site inspections during the proposal stage and evaluates proposals and recommends the selection of consultants for assigned projects
- Represents Business Unit as required in internal and external meetings, forums and presentations regarding business and technical solutions, technology and methodology decisions, development and deployment directions, information policies and standards, and other management aspects deemed as relevant and appropriate
- Determines the daily management of project management action items and timelines.
- Assesses and establishes project milestones, progress and reporting. Manages and organizes project documentation
- Inspects and oversees the work in progress by contractors, ensuring that all work is carried out according to approved specifications, quality standards and government regulations
- Performs record keeping tasks by ensuring the timely and efficientpreparation, processing and maintenance of all reports, drawings, tender documentation, designs and records associated with assigned projects
- Works with consultants, (including architects and engineers), contractors, and Toronto Water staff during all phases of the project.
- Reviews engineering drawings and specifications for completeness and accuracy and provides comments and recommendations in accordance with Toronto Water standards
- Attends meetings at all phases of project development and implementation ensuring accurate minute and record keeping
- Ensures post construction documentation is received and is complete including as-built drawings, maintenance manuals and warranty information
- Follows-up prior to expiration of warranty periods to ensure completion of all warranty deficiencies
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications :
- Post secondary education in Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline from a recognized institution or approved equivalent amount of training / education and experience.
- Considering experience in Data Centre / Computer Room retrofit, upgrades or new construction projects and data centre migration.
- Considerable experience reading and interpreting architectural, mechanical, electrical, network topology / structured cabling drawings.
- Considerable experience utilizing project management tools for planning and implementing projects and / or work packages.
- Experience as an architect in an infrastructure / technology architecture environment.
Must also have :
- Must possess a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver’s and have access to a vehicle. Proponents must submit a copy of the Candidate's driver's license along with the submission.
- Ability to prepare project documents including but not limited to business case, feasibility study, detailed budget submission and RFI / Q / P).
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective consulting relationship with all stakeholders with a strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and work collaboratively with others in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and possess good presentations skills.
- Ability to evaluate and recommend new solutions, approaches and methodologies. This includes but not limited to architecture, mechanical, electrical, communications, security, etc
- Excellent problem solving, leadership, facilitation, interpersonal and communications skills.
- 13. Knowledge of technology infrastructure and server and network topology 14. Knowledge of Data Centre / Computer Room designs as well as current and emerging Data Centre / Computer Room technologies including power (UPS, PDU, Rack Power Strips), cooling (CRAC), fire protection, structured cabling, racks / cabinets, etc.
- Knowledge of TIA-942 - Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centres; Uptime Institute Standards
- Knowledge of project management principles, construction methods & planning and related procedures.
- Knowledge of the WHMIS Legislation, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Ontario Codes and Regulations related to Construction Projects as they apply to repairs, renovations, and new construction for Data Centre / Computer and Entrance Rooms.
- Knowledge of MS Project, MS Visio, MS Office, one or more project issue tracking systems.
