Job Description
As a Technical Animation Director at Ubi MTL, you will be a driver of innovation and collaboration, enabling teams to bring rich and immersive gaming experiences to life. Your expertise and vision will support creators in pushing animation boundaries and turning ideas into reality.
You will implement strategies to bridge creative ambition and technical feasibility, anticipate obstacles, and ensure smooth project progression. As a leader, you will manage daily priorities and long-term goals, impacting game quality, process efficiency, and team well-being. Your role is crucial in fostering an environment where technology and creativity produce stunning animations.

What You Will Do

  • Set up and maintain the animation pipeline for efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the tools team to improve scripts in MotionBuilder (Python).
  • Design and improve animation systems in the game engine with animators and developers.
  • Support procedural animation systems and full-body IK setup with our animation programmer.
  • Ensure animation systems support customization.
  • Balance artistic quality and performance with riggers.
  • Write documentation and assist team members in their tasks.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in gaming animation, developing systems or programming, with 3+ years in leadership.
  • Strong mastery of game engines (Unity, Unreal) and 3D software (MotionBuilder, 3ds Max, Maya). Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, C#, JavaScript, MaxScript), motion capture, and state machines.
  • Degree in 3D animation, computer science, or related field.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Innovative, collaborative, analytical, curious, adaptable to challenges.
  • Experience with Jira and Perforce.
  • Passion for supporting talent and continuous learning.
