Job summary

A local performance venue in Kawartha Lakes is seeking a skilled Lighting Technician to join their team on a part-time basis. The role involves setting up and designing lighting for various live events including concerts and plays. Qualifications

  • Valid Working at Heights certification required.
  • Up-to-date WHMIS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate lighting systems for events.
  • Design and implement lighting plots.
  • Communicate with touring technicians for lighting designs.
  • Maintain lighting fixtures and repair equipment.
  • Assist with technical maintenance alongside Technical Director.
  • Ensure safe lighting setups.

FLATO Academy Theatre is hiring Tech Support!

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lighting Technician to join our team on a casual, part-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for the setup, operation, and design of lighting for a variety of live events including concerts, theatrical productions, and corporate functions. This is a hands-on, in-person role ideal for someone with a strong foundation in lighting systems and a creative eye for design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate lighting systems for concerts, plays, and corporate events

• Design and implement lighting plots, including colour theory and cue structure

• Occasionally communicate with touring technicians to review and coordinate lighting designs for

incoming acts

• Maintain lighting fixtures, replace gels, clean and repair equipment as needed

• Assist with general technical maintenance and upkeep alongside the Technical Director

• Ensure safe and effective lighting setups in accordance with current safety standards

Required Qualifications:

• A two-year diploma in a related field or equivalent industry experience

• Valid Working at Heights certification

• Up-to-date WHMIS certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge or experience in other areas of technical production (audio, video, staging)

• Electrical knowledge or related education

Key Skills:

• Strong understanding of conventional lighting systems

• Confident in lighting design and colour theory

• Comfortable communicating with visiting artists and touring crew when required

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

• Reliable, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious

Able to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends)

Compensation:

$25/hour
