Job Description

We’re looking for a Frontend Tech Lead to own the technical direction and execution of our web frontend projects, and where appropriate, support logic-sharing with mobile platforms. This is a high-impact, hands-on role with no direct people management responsibilities, but significant influence over technology choices, engineering standards, and development practices.

You’ll focus on building high-quality, scalable systems while guiding and aligning frontend development across teams. In this role, you’ll work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Engineering Managers to define solution approaches, oversee implementation, and ensure technical consistency. You’ll also contribute to hiring, onboarding, and retaining top-tier frontend talent.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on initiative, takes deep ownership of their work, and leads by example. You should be passionate about clean architecture, championing best practices, and creating frontend systems that are maintainable, resilient, and aligned with long-term goals.

What You’ll Do

• Own and evolve the technical vision for our web frontends.
• Serve as the custodian of engineering standards for frontend development, driving best practices in architecture, code quality, testing, and tooling.
• Actively contribute code, especially on mission-critical or technically complex projects, while prioritizing your broader responsibilities as technical lead.
• Work closely with Engineers, Product Managers, and Engineering Managers to shape the technical approach for new projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
• Collaborate with QA to shape the frontend testing strategy, including decisions around automation, tooling, and test coverage priorities.
• Define and enforce quality gates using mechanisms like PR reviews, linters, automated checks, and shared documentation.
• Provide ongoing technical oversight across teams, ensuring projects deliver what was agreed upon in terms of architecture, scalability, and maintainability.
• Support hiring efforts for frontend engineers and help ensure we retain strong talent by building meaningful relationships and mentoring engineers in collaboration with the Engineering Manager.
• Promote responsible logic sharing between React and React Native projects, identifying areas where code reuse is valuable while avoiding past pitfalls.
• Proactively identify and address architectural debt or inefficiencies across frontend codebases.

What We’re Looking For

• Extensive experience building production-grade web applications, ideally using React and TypeScript.
• Strong architectural and systems-thinking skills, with a clear track record of owning complex frontend codebases.
• Hands-on mindset with the ability to dive into critical projects while maintaining a strategic view of frontend direction.
• Experience defining and enforcing engineering best practices across a growing organization.
• Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders on technical decisions.
• Deep understanding of frontend testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• High standards for technical quality and the confidence to defend opinions with reasoned arguments.
• Comfortable with ambiguity, able to bring structure and clarity where needed.
• Experience working in cross-functional teams, ideally in a startup or fast-scaling environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with shared code strategies between React and React Native.
• Familiarity with tools in our stack: Vite, Redux, GitHub Actions, Cloudflare, Cypress, Playwright, and the Atlassian suite.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies for frontend projects.
• Awareness of performance optimization strategies for modern web apps.
