Job summary

TechInsights in Ottawa invites a Teardown Lab Co-op Student to join our hands-on lab. You will document disassembly of consumer electronics using DSLR cameras and log components into our inventory system, gaining exposure to microelectronics in a fast-paced research environment.

Candidates must be enrolled in electrical or mechanical engineering, demonstrate attention to detail, and work well both independently and in a team; training and development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

  • Must be a post-secondary student enrolled in electrical or mechanical engineering or related fields.
  • Keen interest in Microelectronics.
  • Strong attention to detail and good written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Disassembly of Consumer Electronics.
  • Capturing High-Quality Photos of the Disassembly Process.
  • Identifying and Cataloguing of the Electronic Components and Sub-Systems.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Through this program, we strive to foster a culture of mentorship, collaboration, and continuous learning, empowering co-op students to contribute meaningfully to our projects and initiatives.

While working in the role of Teardown Lab Co-op Student, you will be working hands-on in a fast-paced lab environment. You will be responsible for documenting the disassembly of consumer electronic devices through high-resolution photography, as well as identifying and cataloging the components found inside and entering them into our inventory management system. In this role you will be working with DSLR cameras, photo-editing software, hand tools (screwdrivers, cutting tools, wrenches, prying tools, etc), and power tools (drills, cutting tools, heat guns, etc). In addition to this, you will gain some hands-on experience with specialized lab equipment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Identifying and Cataloguing of the Electronic Components and Sub-Systems.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Must be a post-secondary student enrolled in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields.
  • Keen interest in or experience with Microelectronics.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on self-directed projects.
