Job description

Mō te tūnga | About the Role

Reporting to the Area Manager (Poutakiwa), this leadership role involves overseeing and supporting a team ofKaiawhina (staff) who provide day-to-day care and wellbeing for Tangata (clients) living in the whare (house).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of Tangata lifestyle and support plans
  • Providing leadership and guidance to kaimahi/kaiawhina
  • Overseeing day-to-day operational management
  • Driving quality improvement initiatives
  • Leading and mentoring your team
  • Managing key relationships internally and externally
  • Enhancing tikanga and Te Reo Māori in the whare and incorporating these across all activities

This is a hands-on role, and at times you will need to provide direct support alongside your team to ensure the best outcomes for our Tangata.

Ko wai koe | About You

You are a natural leader with a background in the healthcare sector - whether in community health, disability support, or aged care - and ideally have experience working with people with high or complex needs.

You possess strong leadership, coaching, and people-management skills, and can foster a culture of collaboration and excellence in a sometimes-challenging environment. Communication is a strength of yours, both written and verbal, and you excel at building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Skills and Experience

You will bring:

  • Previous leadership experience in the care or support sector
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • High emotional intelligence and resilience
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Confident decision-making abilities
  • Understanding of cultural competency, particularly relating to Māori, Pacific, and other cultures
  • Minimum Level 4 Certificate in Health & Wellbeing, or a recognised equivalent qualification (essential)
  • A reasonable level of physical fitness
  • A full NZ driver’s licence (essential)
