The Opportunity
This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology. As the Team Leaders, Wafer Fab Equipment, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of all wafer fabrication equipment. This role involves overseeing maintenance schedules, troubleshooting equipment issues, and leading a team of technicians to support production goals.
What You’ll Do
Supervise and coordinate the maintenance and repair of wafer fabrication equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
Ensure equipment downtime solutions are sustainable, durable and enduring.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment efficiency.
Monitor equipment performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to address equipment-related challenges.
Motivate employees across all shifts on a regular basis through interpersonal interactions, personal example, mentoring, fostering creativity / innovation, delegation / empowerment, providing opportunities to learn, positive reinforcement, goal setting, sharing relevant technical / business information, and providing ongoing feedback.
Ensure training and mentorship of technicians on equipment operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.
Take steps to grow the subject matter expertise of the technicians in order that complicated equipment issues can be effectively addressed on all shifts.
Manage performance of team members and assist them with their development and succession planning.
Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
Ensure equipment changes are validated or verified according to current quality standards, maintaining the validated state of all processes.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, our quality management system and safety regulations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and production efficiency.
Establish an organizational climate conducive to maximizing employee potential and productivity, retention of key personnel, a team approach to work and problem solving. Foster a culture of data driven and systematic problem resolution, where the simplest and most robust solutions are of primary focus.
Regularly review current results and create plans for overcoming upcoming challenges. Ensure staff are assigned to the most important issues or projects.
Emphasize corporate values, mission and long-term goals rather than short-term objectives or perspectives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electronics, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred or 3-year diploma in technology or related discipline.
Experience with management of Direct Labour, shift work, managing teams across multiple shifts is preferred.
Minimum of 6 years of work experience in a multi-product manufacturing environment; experience with automated equipment, change control, capital projects and CAPA systems
Strong technical aptitude, applying reasoning and analytical abilities to accomplish work objectives, emphasizing logic and data when assessing situations and identifying possible courses of action and/or opportunities.
Ability to operate independently with a broad scope of responsibilities under minimal supervision and under challenging time constraints
Inclination to remain calm and convey urgency effectively during equipment downtime or technical/safety emergencies
Ability to clearly, concisely and accurately explain technical issues, maintenance procedures and troubleshooting methods to technicians, engineers and leaders, appropriately tailoring communication style, depending on the audience, both orally and in writing
Experience handling disagreements or equipment-related challenges with diplomacy and professionalism
Ability to form and develop interpersonal, professional relationships; inclination to display socially and professionally appropriate behavior
Knowledge of GMP, ISO and FDA Quality standards, safety regulations and Lean Six Sigma.
Strong organization, time- and project-management skills.
Ability to use various types of software (e.g. MS-Office suite, CAD, TrakSuite, etc.)
Knowledge of statistical methods for process and quality control
Ability to identify and evaluate unique ways to improve the organization (quality, cost reductions, use of resources, policies/procedures, products); generating useful new ideas, approaches or techniques.
Self-motivated with demonstrated leadership abilities to challenge status quo.
Strong customer focus and ability to deliver results.
Ability to make business decisions despite uncertainty.
Demonstrated ability to influence stake holders, effectively work and communicate in matrix organization (Supply Chain, Operations, Product Engineering, Supplier Engineering, R&D, IT, Quality Assurance, etc.)
