Base pay range: CA$51.18 / hr - CA$63.98 / hr

The Opportunity :

The Team Leader of Culture and Heritage reports directly to the Manager of Culture, Heritage, and Event Services. This individual oversees culture and heritage initiatives, focusing on building community capacity and strengthening partnerships with cultural, heritage, Indigenous stakeholders, and not-for-profit organizations. The role acts as a broker to link community organizations to Council strategic areas of focus through leveraging resources (municipal land, funding, grants) and to seed new initiatives that demonstrate collaboration, increase outcomes for cultural and community events, and foster a vibrant, inclusive environment that celebrates our community's diverse cultural heritage.

Responsibilities include :
  • Provide strong leadership to direct reports, delivering coaching and mentoring, celebrating successes, providing constructive feedback, and empowering employees to achieve their goals.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of culture and heritage initiatives that enhance the community's cultural landscape.
  • Develop budgets and resource requests based on sound business cases, evidence, and needs aligned with the City’s fiscal framework and service levels.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and apply standard operating procedures as per Council Policy and oversee grant management for cultural events, ensuring equitable distribution and impactful community engagement.
  • Manage contract reviews and service agreements with providers to ensure alignment with policies.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure project alignment, collaboration, and communication.
  • Identify best practices in customer service and address escalated concerns.
  • Deliver presentations and reports to the Executive Leadership team, City Council, and other committees as required.
You Bring :
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Cultural Studies, Heritage Management, or related fields.
  • Six-Sigma process improvement experience is an asset.
  • Heritage Studies certification is an asset.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and achieving organizational goals.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act; municipal experience is an asset.
  • Experience with not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Expertise in policy, systems planning, project management, and government relations.
  • Experience in driving service delivery improvements and strategic planning.
  • Financial management experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Additional Information :
