Job description

KEY OBJECTIVE:

As a key member of the Financial Lines underwriting department, you will manage a diverse book of renewal Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Media, Excess Lawyers, and Employed Lawyers business, as well as identifying and cultivating new business opportunities. You will be instrumental in enhancing the department's profitability and market presence. As a leader, you will be responsible for fostering a culture of excellence through training, coaching, and mentoring, focusing on enhancing technical skills and developing effective sales and marketing strategies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Underwriting Excellence

  • Lead risk selection, pricing, and coverage negotiations for new and renewal Professional Liability business.
  • Manage the underwriting referral process, ensuring that risks outside of local authority are escalated to senior leadership.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and dissemination of underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with established underwriting processes and service standards.
  • Manage the audit process to ensure operational integrity with the business unit.

Financial Strategy

  • Develop and implement a strategic business plan to meet financial objectives related to profit, growth, and expense management.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to ensure financial targets are achieved.

Client Engagement

  • Actively represent Chubb to brokers and clients, enhancing corporate visibility in the market.
  • Collaborate with Financial Lines leadership to execute a distribution strategy that drives profitable growth.

P&L

  • Manage P&L responsibilities, including production, forecasting, financial reporting, and expense management.
  • Lead strategic changes in response to evolving market conditions to remain profitable.

Team Leadership

  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of underwriting staff.
  • Manage performance evaluations and lead cross-functional underwriting teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience, preferably in Professional Liability.
  • Previous management experience is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills for risk evaluation according to corporate guidelines.
  • Proven negotiation skills developed through established broker/client relationships.
  • Innovative and creative mindset for developing new opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
