Job summary

QFG is seeking a Team Lead, Software Engineering to architect resilient integration layers and unify customer journeys across legacy systems. You will mentor engineers while partnering with UX and Product to ensure feasible feature designs and robust security through SSO and identity standards.

The role focuses on technical stewardship, cross-domain orchestration, and reducing systemic risk in a hybrid Toronto or Calgary team, driving high-impact architectural decisions and long-term

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of software development experience with demonstrated technical leadership or Pod lead responsibilities.
• Proven experience designing and scaling orchestration layers (GraphQL Federation, API Gateways) across heterogeneous systems.
• Strong background in distributed transaction management, eventual consistency, and identity standards (OAuth2, OIDC, JWTs, SSO).
• Practical experience implementing resilience patterns (circuit breakers, retries, bulkhead isolation) across complex system boundaries.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, influence technical roadmaps, and partner cross-functionally with UX and Product

Responsibilities

• Drive cross-domain orchestration by architecting resilient integration layers (GraphQL Federation, API Gateways) that aggregate legacy banking cores and microservices.
• Unify customer journeys, ensuring core workflows like money transfers deliver smooth, performant experiences across savings, brokerage, and lending products.
• Champion technical stewardship, owning single sign-on (SSO), cross-app session management, and identity propagation (KYC/AML) to balance security and usability.
• Implement resilience engineering patterns (circuit breakers, retries, bulkhead isolation) to prevent failure propagation across heterogeneous platforms.
• Lead and mentor Pod engineers, fostering a holistic engineering mindset regarding how system latency and data flows impact the broader user dashboard.
• Partner cross-functionally with UX Research and Product Management to embed technical feasibility into feature designs during early discovery.
• Make high-judgment calls on technical debt, distinguishing speed-buying workarounds from technical rot while navigating legacy middleware and APIs.
• Lead root-cause analysis for multi-system outages, focusing incident command on structural fixes rather than immediate workarounds.]

Compensation Information:

• Base salary range: $130,000- $175,000


• The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
