Reporting to the Manager of the Operating Room and POAC, the Team Leader provides daily operational coordination and expert clinical support to the orthopedic Operating Room team. The role supports safe, high-quality care, efficient patient flow, staff development, and resource readiness within the ambulatory surgical setting.
Staff scheduling, staffing assignments, and formal performance management remain the responsibility of the Manager. The Team Leader identifies needs, provides recommendations, and supports approved changes.
Review the surgical schedule to identify readiness concerns, resource needs, and potential delays.
Communicate concerns and support approved changes.
Coordinate with PSWs and EVS to support room readiness and timely turnover.
Conduct daily OR rounds to identify clinical concerns, operational barriers, and staff support needs. Resolve issues within the role’s authority and elevate concerns promptly.
Lead and manage physician credentialing, appointments, reappointments, privilege changes, and related Medical Staff processes.
Conduct quality review of credentialing and privileging files to ensure readiness for Medical Staff leadership, MAC, and Board approval.
Interpret and apply Medical Staff policies/procedures, organizational requirements, and regulatory standards, identifying risks or exceptions for escalation.
Identify and implement improvements to strengthen credentialing processes, efficiency, compliance, and physician experience.
No formal managerial accountability. Provide clinical guidance, coaching, and feedback as described above;
refer formal employee performance and disciplinary matters to the Manager.
Recommend supplies and equipment based on clinical needs and responsible resource use. Make purchases only with approval and within established guidelines.
Complete mandatory training and maintain role‑specific competencies.
Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations, SAC policies and procedures, and established professional and industry guidelines.
Graduate of an approved baccalaureate nursing program or equivalent experience.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Operating Room certificate.
Minimum of five years of recent Operating Room experience. Operating Room leadership experience preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and competence in orthopedic surgery, including total joint replacement.
Expertise in orthopedic instrumentation and specialized equipment, including robotics.
Knowledge of ORNAC standards of practice.
Current BCLS certification.
Strong clinical judgment, organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to coach and support staff, work collaboratively, and prioritize competing demands with minimal supervision.
Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe, and experience with electronic health records such as MEDITECH.
Satisfactory criminal record/vulnerable sector check and proof of immunization and TB records.
