TEAM LEAD, HOG BARN - BREEDING

Sperling, MB– Full Time Position


POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Barn Manager, the Team Lead is responsible for all activities that occur in the breeding areas, as well as leading and supervising staff.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Manages Occupational Health and Safety.
  2. Works with Barn Manager to implement programs set out by MLAF to achieve specific production goals.
  3. Manages animal health and welfare, Biosecurity, vaccinations and reports any health concerns to the Barn Manager.
  4. Detect heat patterns; carry out natural or artificial insemination.
  5. Follow and implement breeding group work plans.
  6. Monitor ventilation and heat settings throughout the barn areas.
  7. Accurately record and analyze data.
  8. Monitor inventory of medication and supplies and place orders through Barn Manager.
  9. Ensure breeding area is clean and that washing and disinfecting procedures are followed.
  10. Report any unusual problem areas to Barn Manager.
  11. Implement MLAF sow and piglet feeding programs.
  12. Monitor hog body conditions and animal comfort.
  13. Follow culling criteria and implement along with Barn Manager.
  14. Supervise and evaluate staff.
  15. General maintenance.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
  1. A minimum of one year of experience in a swine production role is required.
  2. Experience in a supervisory/management role with the ability to lead a team is preferred.
  3. Grade 12 diploma is preferred.
  4. Experience/ability to lead a team.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  6. Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
  7. Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously.
  8. Ability to live and teach our Maple Leaf Leadership Values.
  9. Weekend and holiday hours are required on a rotational basis.
  10. A valid driver’s license is required as the successful candidate must have the ability to get to and from work located in a rural area.
