About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Career Development, this integral member of the Career Services Department undertakes a multi-faceted position that includes responsibilities to lead a team of full-time staff in addition to duties as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Coordinator. This includes supporting recruitment of new staff, training or assigning mentors, ongoing coaching, report meetings, assisting the manager with performance reviews and management of area team. While conducting full day-to-day supervisory responsibilities for assigned staff, the incumbent will liaise with the Manager, Career Development, faculty and department chairs for the program he/she supervises. In cooperation with the department faculty, the Team Lead, Experiential and Work Integrated Learning has responsibility for developing, implementing, coordinating and promoting Work Integrated Learning programs, for facilitating learning and counseling students to bridge their entry in to the workplace, for managing the learning process which occurs during a succession of work terms, and for the general development and administration of their Work Integrated Learning programs, innovation initiatives and integrated events. The Team Lead, Experiential and Work Integrated Learning is also accountable to both lead and participate in team-based projects as a collaborative means to achieve departmental and institutional objectives.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Support recruitment and selection of new staff, new employee orientation, training and coaching; assist with performance assessment; approve and potentially assist with coverage for coordinators.
  • Under the direction of the manager, lead planning, implementation and evaluation of program services, plans and communication strategies at team and department levels.
  • Ensure Mount Royal University and department policies and procedures are followed while maintaining ongoing quality control and problem solving.
  • In consultation with Manager, Career Development, plan and monitor area outcome measurement and performance targets and lead goal execution and planning at a team level.

Pilot, Implement and Evaluate Experiential and WIL Initiatives, Projects and Education Programs

  • Develop, implement and assess strategic and instructional planning for delivery of assigned experiential and work integrated learning programs.
  • Build relationships with students, provide ongoing input into program development and provide suitable learning experiences and services.
  • Monitor current student progress in all phases of their program, including academic eligibility to continue in the program, completion of program requirements, and alumni outcomes where possible.
  • Continually evaluate student feedback, take corrective action and restructure plans as required.
  • Design, implement and monitor strategies to increase and maintain strong program engagement, retention, and success.
  • Support proposal writing, special project execution, outcomes measurement, reporting, and all necessary aspects of funded initiatives and programs.

Facilitate Student Learning and Coaching Pre, During and Post WIL Placement

  • Facilitate learning in scheduled classes and counsel individually to ease the transition into work integrated learning placement.
  • Prepare course outlines and lesson plans to present learning strategies in support of the department's WIL readiness matrix.
  • Develop materials, instructional technology and experiential exercises consistent with department career development strategy and practice.
  • In consultation with the Manager, Career Development, liaise with Career Services team members to ensure that curriculum development and learning application requirements of students in each work integrated learning program are met.
  • Lead timely student development interventions when issues arise, liaise with the Career Development and Partner Engagement teams to promptly and effectively support students, industry and community partners.
  • Provide one-on-one and broader consultation with work integrated learning students, monitoring student progress.
  • Communicate work integrated learning education expectations and policies to students, and maintain quality control.
  • Lead and/or participate in team-based projects contributing to department objectives.
  • Participate on internal university and external committees.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager, Career Development.
Qualifications
  • Three- or Four-Year Bachelor Degree or Equivalent (Bachelor of Education preferred)

  • A seasoned educator with a strong understanding of pedagogy, outcomes-based education and practice of experiential education, including design, development, learning outcomes, assessment, and sustainability of industry-based programming preferred.

  • Previous career development and continuing education delivery experience within a post-secondary institution is an asset.

  • Demonstrated leader able to think strategically, problem-solve, pivot and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment with multiple functions, competing deadlines and commitments.

  • Strong critical-thinking and change management skills, with demonstrated ability to navigate complex situations with professionalism, diplomacy and tact.

  • Strong ability to self-direct work, manage complex projects and set and meet key deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage, supervise, train and coach a wide variety of colleagues.

  • Exceptional relationship building/management, customer service and marketing skills, including excellent verbal and written communication; demonstrated facilitation (in person and virtual), project management and proposal writing skills.

  • Proven ability to engage and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated expertise in outcome measurement and assessment.

  • Understanding of systems and organizational change;

  • Ability to see larger context and impact, while having excellent attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of the Canadian labour market and workplace expectations.
