VISA 2P96 Introduction to 3D Modelling and Animation

Concepts and skills of 3D modelling and rendering using Autodesk Maya. Approaches to building models, using texturizing, lighting, cameras and rendering as well basic animation techniques. Relevant historic and theoretical perspectives on 3D and virtuality situating 3D within creative process and broader critical practices in cultural production. Lectures, lab, 4 hours per week,

A fully online asynchronous course is a learning environment that is delivered remotely to individuals with access to the internet. Although the course may have a set start date and set due dates for assignments, students can otherwise access and participate in the course at times and places of their own choosing.

Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications

1. BFA or equivalent required.

2. Familiarity with digital media and animation required.

3. Advanced knowledge and comprehension of Maya software required.

4. Demonstrated leadership skills self-sufficiency and patience are required.

5. Must be available to attend asynchronous online lectures and be available for online asynchronous course support.

6. The successful candidate must have demonstrated communication and leadership skills, self-sufficiency and patience including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and be able to meet appropriate deadlines.
