HIST 2P61 Piracy and Ransoming in African History

Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position have changed since it was last posted.

  • Must hold not less than a BA in African History or related disciplinewith a minimum 75% average.
  • Must have background knowledge or course experience in African History.

  • Must show evidence of successful university-level teaching assistant experience or equivalent.
  • The successful applicant must have demonstrated organizational and effective communication and writing skills, including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and meet appropriate deadlines
