Overview

Teaching Assistant opportunities with Vancouver Region Educational Services (VRES). This is a hybrid volunteer position with flexible hours, offering teaching assistance in virtual and/or in-person educational settings to support youth education in Vancouver and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Support youth education by assisting in virtual and in-person settings.
  • Develop teaching, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Engage in mentorship and provide support as part of VRES programs.
  • Receive role placement based on subject(s) and region(s) of interest, with available training and resources.
  • Attend training sessions (counts toward volunteer hours) and participate in the volunteer success program with guidance from a youth advisor.
About VRES

VRES is a non-profit organization delivering affordable educational resources to the Vancouver Region community and beyond. The organization runs a volunteer success program in collaboration with York Region Educational Services (YRES) to recruit and mentor Canadian youth during their volunteer journeys, focusing on practical skills development and accessible educational services.

Opportunities and Pathways

Following the volunteer application, VRES will match you with a youth advisor who will help construct a Skill Development Plan (SDP). Your SDP guides your volunteer placement to reflect your needs, interests, and abilities. The program also offers a path toward paid employment; more than half of our employees began as volunteers. If paid employment interests you, indicate this in your volunteer application.

Qualifications
  • Located in Vancouver, the Greater Vancouver Area, Ottawa, the Greater Toronto Area, Alberta, or elsewhere in Canada with interest in a virtual placement
  • Between ages 12-30
  • Interested in education, health, environment, and/or digital services
  • Passionate about educational services
  • Patient, adaptable, and supportive, committed to youth educational development
