Job summary

Yukon Education is seeking Teacher on Calls for the 2024/2025 school year to replace regular teachers as needed. Job description

Located on the Traditional Territory of the Kwanlin Dn First Nation and Taan Kwchn Council, our public schools in Whitehorse are operated by three school authorities: Yukon Education Department of Education, First Nation School Board (FNSB), and the Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon (CSFY).

Together, we are looking for Teacher on Calls for the 2024/2025 school year.

Our Teacher on Calls replace regular classroom teachers or education assistants on an as-needed basis. They are responsible for delivering set lesson plans, maintaining a positive learning climate, managing students and expectations in the classroom and broader learning environments, and collaborating with other educators to ensure student success. Supervising students during recess/lunch breaks and participating in arrival and dismissal duties may also be part of the daily responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting
  • Bachelor of Education (Elementary, Middle, or Secondary) degree or equivalent training (asset)
  • A valid Teacher Regulation Branch Certificate or in progress (asset)

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability :

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their :

  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision
  • Effective communication using courtesy and tact
  • Ability to judge and select appropriate actions within established methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of spoken and written French (required for positions with CSFY)
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations students and a culturally diverse student population
