NATURE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Teachers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provide direct or consultative services for students who have a diagnosed hearing loss. They provide in-service to school teams on appropriate accommodations to address access and inclusion for students with hearing loss. They collaborate with Provincial Resource Programs and community audiologists to provide assistive listening devices for use at school and support/monitor their use. They liaise with school teams, community agencies and Provincial services.Schedule to be determined.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
· A Masters Degree in the education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
· Experience/training in teaching students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing and may have had Cochlear Implants.
· Ability to participate in assessements of designated students and to set up and implement modified or adapted programs for students with hearing loss.
· Ability and experience in creating extensive Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) for students with hearing loss.
· Skill in developing instructional and behavioural strategies to assist classroom teachers.
· Knowledge of sign language required.

· Strong organizational skills.
· Excellent oral communications, written communication, and group facilitation skills.
· Superior work ethic and social emotional competencies, excellent reflective judgment, and commitment to building effective learning communities.
· Comprehensive understanding of curriculum.
· Confidence and proficiency in using instructional organizers, concepts, and strategies that actively engage all students in learning.
· Ability to positively influence instruction, curriculum, assessment, and social-emotional learning practices in a collaborative environment.
· Knowledge and understanding of the application of relevant computer technologies to teaching and learning.
· Willingness to be involved in professional development, with an ongoing commitment to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies.
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· Possession of a BC Teaching Certificate
· Membership in the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
· A member of the North Vancouver Teachers’ Association and the BC Teachers’ Federation.
