Responsibilities
- Establish clear course objectives aligned with Alberta Education curriculum and communicate these to students. Prepare lessons and classroom activities.
- Use diverse instructional approaches suitable for the grade level and student needs. Conduct activities that promote observation, questioning, and investigation. Assign and grade homework.
- Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, and social development. Maintain accurate student records.
- Enforce rules for behavior and safety, following administrative policies.
- Meet with colleagues, parents, and administrators to discuss student progress and needs.
- Collaborate with staff on lesson planning and school programs. Attend professional development and staff meetings.
- Prepare students for future grades, adapt teaching methods, and support students requiring extra help. Use technology and organize experiential activities.
- Supervise class projects, field trips, and extracurricular activities. Support student physical, mental, and social development.
- Assign tasks to support staff and assist in their supervision and evaluation.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Experience with junior and high school curriculum
- Successful Criminal Reference Check (within 3 months of start date)
