K-12 Teacher

Nahanni Butte is one of the most beautiful communities in the Northwest Territories. The gateway to Nahanni National Park, it’s stunning beauty is predominant in every direction! It is a “Designated Authority” community with winter road access and a summer water taxi. It’s next to some of the most spectacular outdoor activities in Canada! The community is located at the confluence of the Liard and South Nahanni Rivers in the southwestern part of the NWT, and is known for its climate which is much warmer than most of the Northwest Territories.

The school staff includes a teaching principal, support assistants, elders and culture workers and a language teacher, a full time teacher and a Program Support Teacher/High School Teacher.

Dehcho Divisional Education Council invites applications from certified teachers who are dedicated to teaching and have experience and/or interest in the cultural, linguistic and traditional heritage of the Dene. The teacher will offer a holistic, culturally relevant program that supports the language and cultural heritage of the students and addresses the needs of all students who may have learning challenges in multi-grade classes.

Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Northwest Territories Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience in teaching multigrade and combined grade classes in JK-12
  • Ability to work as a team member in planning, delivery and assessment of programs and students.
  • An understanding of how to use Universal Design for Learning to ensure all young people are engaged and learning every day.
  • Experience providing culturally relevant programming
  • Experience with BC Curriculum is considered an asset
  • Experience teaching reading using research-based strategies is considered an asset.

At the interview stage, candidates will be asked to submit three references, including current and past supervisors.

Candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRC) as well as a Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) from the RCMP if they are contacted for an interview.

Failure to provide a satisfactory CRC and VSC may deem the candidate disqualified from the competitive process.
