Job summary

Rural Roads Health Services (RRHS) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Laboratory team at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. The MLA will handle specimen collection, preparation, labeling, and referral, and perform phlebotomy and ECG procedures to support diagnostic testing.

Strong communication and patient-facing skills are essential to provide a positive patient experience. Prior hospital phlebotomy experience is preferred; knowledge of ECG billing with Cerner and MUSE

Qualifications

• Post-secondary course in phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant Program.
• Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (OMST) required.
• Experience in phlebotomy in a hospital environment is preferred.

Job description

Rural Roads Health Services (RRHS) is actively seeking applicants for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) position in our Laboratory.

The primary location for this position is: Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital

Key Responsibilities:

• Required to collect, prepare, label and refer laboratory specimens;
• Perform phlebotomy and ECG procedures;
• Clerical duties as applicable.

Qualifications:

• Completed post-secondary course at an officially recognized community college or technical institution related to phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant Program;
• Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (OMST) required;
• 2 years' experience in phlebotomy in a hospital environment;
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to deescalate and provide a positive patient experience;
• Possess solid technical skills for phlebotomy and ECG collection, including preparation and processing of specimens and patient documentation;
• Knowledge of ECG billing in Cerner and MUSE application;
• Professional behavior and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable

Other pertinent conditions:

• As per the OPSEU Salary Grid ($32.59 per hour to $37.26 per hour)

Must be available to work all shifts as required, which may include; weekends, statutory holidays, days, evenings and night shifts. Hours are subject to change based on operation needs of the hospital.
