Position Summary

HSO’s Medication Management Technical Committee (TC) is being refreshed for the new edition of CAN/HSO 3001:2019 Medication Management Standard of Canada. The update will include prescribing, preparing, storing, dispensing, administering, monitoring effects, and disposing of medications. It emphasizes shared accountability for safe medication management among organizational leaders and teams, considering legislation changes, clinical governance, healthcare practices, the opioid crisis, antimicrobial resistance, and technological advances.

HSO standards support strong healthcare systems by providing a foundation that promotes high-quality health services. As a member of the Technical Committee, you will contribute to developing standards that support ongoing quality improvements and shape the future of health services worldwide. This role offers opportunities to collaborate with passionate professionals and individuals with lived experience, and recognizes your expertise as a standard author.

Your contributions will include:

  1. Monitoring and providing strategic guidance on emerging areas within the TC scope, including proposing new standards.
  2. Identifying sponsorship and endorsement opportunities.
  3. Collaborating with stakeholders and experts in Canada and internationally to revise or develop standards.
  4. Representing your stakeholder category (patient, provider, policy maker, or general interest) and working for the global community’s benefit.
  5. Reaching consensus on standard topics and content through meetings.
  6. Maintaining effective communication among TC members and HSO staff.
  7. Guiding HSO staff on technical interpretation questions.
  8. Promoting standards adoption post-publication.

Candidate profile:

  • Identify with one of these stakeholder categories: Patients, Providers, Policy Makers/Health Stakeholders, or General Interest.
  • Have subject matter expertise through professional and lived experience.
  • Demonstrate experience in collaborative settings, with diplomacy and respect.
  • Can commit to the required time for TC activities.
  • Work and collaborate in English.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in consensus-based team models.
  • Experience developing standards or policies.
  • Valuing integrity, credibility, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong critical thinking and judgment skills.
  • Positive, innovative attitude.
  • Fluency in French is a plus.

Financial information: Positions are voluntary. Patient and family members receive honorariums, and expenses for in-person meetings in Ottawa are reimbursed. Further details will be provided upon selection.

Application process: Immediate confirmation upon submission. Follow-up interviews only if selected.

We are an equal opportunity employer, committed to employment equity. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals, including minorities, Indigenous persons, and persons with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request.
