Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to join a major infrastructure project in Melbourne, Australia.

Location: Melbourne, Australia (on-site)

Duration: 24+ months

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, with flexibility for rotating shifts (additional pay applies)

Role Summary

The Mechanical Supervisor will oversee all mechanical operations related to Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and conveyor systems. The role requires technical expertise, leadership, and strong coordination skills to ensure mechanical systems are installed, maintained, and operated efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

TBM Mechanical Operations

  • Supervise the assembly, operation, maintenance, and disassembly of TBMs.
  • Ensure compliance with method statements and TBM supplier specifications.
  • Optimize mechanical performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Lead installation, operation, and maintenance of TBM conveyor systems.
  • Coordinate the fixed plant equipment for spoil removal.
  • Oversee performance, maintenance, and assembly extensions of conveyor belts.
  • Direct a team of mechanical technicians and maintenance staff.
  • Align work with tunneling, civil, M&E, and construction teams.
  • Plan daily activities and ensure cross-functional collaboration.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety and environmental protocols.
  • Conduct safety inspections and monitor subcontractor compliance.

Maintenance & Inspections

  • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance planning.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and readiness of mechanical systems.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed maintenance logs and performance reports.
  • Prepare daily updates on mechanical systems and progress.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in tunneling projects, ideally with TBM and conveyor systems.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams.
  • Experience working in international environments is highly valued.
  • Safety-oriented mindset with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
