Job summary

Ontario Transit Group - Ontario Line - Southern Civil, Stations & Tunnel is seeking a TBM Mechanical Foreman to lead and supervise mechanical operations for SEM and tunneling activities. The role requires a minimum of 7-10 years of mechanical experience along with strong supervisory skills. Company Overview

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

Project Overview

Design and construction of a six-kilometer tunnel from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River), with multiple stations, anticipated completion by 2030, and contribution to Ontario’s economy.

  • Six km tunnel from Exhibition to Don Yard.
  • Stations: One above-ground integrated with GO Transit Exhibition Station; two underground integrated with TTC Osgoode and Queen; four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).
  • Expected to support 1,500 jobs at construction peak.

Job Overview

The TBM Mechanical Foreman leads and supervises mechanical works for SEM and tunneling operations, ensuring safe, efficient installation and maintenance of equipment. The role coordinates with project teams to align schedules, enforce quality standards, and manage resources, ensuring safety compliance and resolving mechanical issues to keep tunneling activities on track.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical Supervision – Oversee installation, maintenance, and operation of mechanical equipment related to SEM & tunneling activities. Ensure all works are safe, efficient, and meet project specifications.
  • Project Coordination – Collaborate with engineers, site managers, and other trades to coordinate mechanical works within tunneling schedule. Ensure mechanical activities do not impede overall process.
  • Quality Control – Implement quality control procedures and regularly inspect mechanical installations and repairs to maintain high quality.
  • Safety Management – Ensure compliance with safety regulations, conduct safety briefings, and ensure all workers are properly trained and equipped.
  • Resource Management – Manage allocation of mechanical resources: personnel, tools, materials, ensuring availability on site when needed.
  • Reporting – Maintain detailed records of mechanical works, equipment usage, and maintenance; provide regular updates to project management.
  • Problem Solving – Address mechanical issues or challenges during tunneling operations; develop solutions minimizing disruptions.
  • Equipment Management – Oversee maintenance, repair, and operation of all mechanical equipment; coordinate with equipment manager for optimal functioning.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7-10 years of mechanical work experience in construction, with tunneling or underground construction preferred.
  • Proven supervisory experience, strong leadership and team motivation skills.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, and blueprints; strong knowledge of SEM tunneling processes.
  • In-depth understanding of safety regulations; certification in safety management is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with engineers, site managers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solve and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Willingness to register as a member of the local union.
