About Tartigrade Ltd.

Tartigrade is a Calgary-based hedge fund and private equity firm. We operate across Canada and internationally, leveraging sophisticated financial strategies, quantitative analysis, and in-house software development. In parallel, we support the Foundation of the Energy Collective (FEC), a registered charity focused on building sustainable, tech-enabled communities.

We are lean, driven, and deeply committed to excellence in both finance and systems innovation.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced tax professional to join us on a subsidy-backed summer engagement. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with real-world tax experience who may be:

  • Pursuing continuing education or re-entering the workforce
  • Looking for impactful, high-level work in a fast-moving environment
  • Interested in transitioning from external advisory to an embedded strategic role

This is not a junior position. You will work directly with the Founder and CIO on strategic legal/tax operations and help lay the groundwork for a proprietary internal tax software system.Successful completion of this role could lead to full-time employment once the term is over.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and document TTG’s current tax process: Understand our GP/LP and International trading structure
  • Advise on transitioning some tax functions in-house: Identify what parts of tax preparation, filings, or compliance could be internalized in a cost-effective, low-risk manner
  • Lead the scoping of a proprietary tax software solution: Work with our software developers to define features, workflows, and reporting logic for a future internal system. This will be used as the foundation for a Capstone student development project.

Candidate Profile

  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • University degree in Accounting, Taxation or a related field
  • CPA designation, enrollment in the CPA program, or equivalent tax/legal training is a strong asset
  • 3+ years of experience in Canadian corporate tax or compliance
  • Exposure to cross-border or multi-entity structures (e.g. LP/GP) preferred
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Willing and able to register in one course during summer (required for wage subsidy eligibility)
  • Interested in working with a hedge fund at the intersection of finance, law, and technology
  • Entrepreneurial mindset — thrives in a high-autonomy, high-impact role
  • Based in Canada (Alberta preferred but not required).

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Strategic seat at the table – work directly with senior leadership
  • High-ownership – lead change in how legal and tax operations are managed
  • Innovation-first – contribute to building a taxtech tool from the ground up
  • Subsidy-supported – we will help eligible candidates secure student status for the summer
  • Impact – contribute meaningfully to both a hedge fund and a mission-driven foundation.
