What Youll Be Doing

Reporting to the Director of Tax Services, the Specialist will be responsible for the effective and timely completion and filing of all requisite tax returns for complex Estate and Trust accounts. You will fulfill a variety of income tax compliance, planning, and administrative functions.

Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How Youll Succeed

Tax Acumen - Obtain information required to prepare and file income tax calculations, complete required schedules, and organize information for complex returns. Accurately prepare personal, estate, and trust income tax returns, including post-mortem and other tax planning opportunities. Act as a technical tax resource to the ETA Team. Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment requests, objection notices, and Clearance Certificate requests for filing. Correspond with the CRA to ensure any requests for information are provided.

Collaboration - Liaise with CIBC Trust staff, external tax professionals, and clients to ensure timely filing of complex returns, resolve taxation issues, and implement tax strategies effectively.

Training - Train and oversee seasonal staff, develop/present tax training seminars for trust staff, and identify tax planning opportunities for outsourcing, including other tax returns.

Who You Are

You have a degree/diploma in accounting or equivalent work experience.

You are a certified professional, having completed or working towards CPA designation, and have completed STEP, CSI, or Taxation Courses.

You have experience with T1, T3 trusts, estate returns, and graduated rate estates.

You put clients first, engage purposefully to find solutions, and go the extra mile because it's the right thing to do.
