Job description

Our client, a Top 5 Bank in Canada, is looking to hire a Tax Specialist for an initial 12-month contract. This role is currently hybrid in Toronto.

Job Description :

The Tax Specialist will be responsible for the effective and timely completion and filing of all requisite tax returns for complex Estate and Trust accounts. The role involves income tax compliance, planning, and administrative functions.

Responsibilities :

  1. Obtain information from clients, internal and external sources required to prepare and file income tax returns. Perform calculations, complete required schedules, and organize information for complex returns.
  2. Accurately prepare personal, estate, and trust income tax returns and schedules. Identify post-mortem and other tax planning opportunities. Act as a technical tax resource to the ETA Team.
  3. Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment requests, objection notices, and Clearance Certificate requests. Correspond with the CRA to ensure requested information is provided.
  4. Maintain service standards for quality, responsiveness, and timeliness.
  5. Liaise with Trust staff, outside tax professionals, and clients to ensure that income tax filing requirements for complex returns are met on time; taxation issues are explained and resolved; and tax strategies are implemented effectively.
  6. Participate in special projects as assigned.
  7. Manage and train junior staff.
  8. Review complex tax returns such as GREs and terminal T1 returns.
  9. Take ownership of assigned projects with limited supervision.

Must Have Requirements :

  • 2+ years of experience in an accounting or tax-related role.
  • Familiarity with graduated rate estates.
  • Post-secondary degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • Experience or knowledge in preparing T1, T1 final, T3 trusts, and estate returns.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software.
