RSM US Corporate tax helps Canadian and foreign multi-national businesses and privately held companies navigate the complex US tax regime. This includes assistance with initial structuring considerations when expanding into the US, annual tax return compliance for federal and state requirements, tax savings opportunities from credits, incentives, and law changes, repatriating cash efficiently, and planning exit strategies. Our group also assists Canadian citizens with FIRPTA filings, Form 1099s for contractor payments, Form 1042s for FDAP payments, and other cross-border matters.

As a Tax Senior Manager at RSM, you will be responsible for core duties centered around three concepts: Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service / Business Development:

  1. Review complex tax returns such as 1120s, 1065s, 1120-F branch, and treaty-based returns.
  2. Review SALT returns.
  3. Manage all client needs from PBC requests to final billing.
  4. Serve as a Career Advisor, mentor or coach, providing performance feedback (about 10-20% of your time).
  5. Train and develop staff members (about 10-20% of your time).
  6. Provide detailed review and analysis of complex tax returns including PFICs, 8865s, 8858s, 1042s, 1099s, 5471s, 5472s.
  7. Handle multiple complex issues, communicating effectively with clients and the service team while managing risks.
  8. Serve as the Tax client service coordinator for designated clients.
  9. Advise clients on corporate tax services, including planning, research, compliance, and M&A activities.
  10. Review research findings, ensuring compliance with firm policies and standards.
  11. Assist with new business development and tax issue recognition.
  12. Manage corporate client needs regarding tax services and compliance.
  13. Stay current on tax practices and law changes.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned; some travel may be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • CPA, JD, LLM, or EA credential.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in Public Accounting.
  • Ability to work closely with clients to answer questions and gather information.
  • Experience with S-Corps, C-Corps, or Partnerships.
  • Effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of tax code and technical aspects of tax compliance.
  • Strong technical skills in accounting and tax preparation; industry specialization is a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience with ASC 740 accounting for income taxes.
  • Experience with international tax matters is a plus.

Compensation Range: $81,500 - $130,500

Selected individuals will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance.
