Who are we looking for

We have an immediate opportunity available for a Tax Leader - Americas.

As the leader of the Americas Tax Team, you will assist the Enterprise Tax Leader in overseeing the tax affairs of the Americas region. This includes:

  • Providing tax advice, ensuring delivery and implementation of commercial tax advice regarding international projects, legislative changes including mergers and acquisitions, and capital management structuring.
  • Managing tax risks and governance, overseeing tax compliance obligations, tax provisions, research, and reporting requirements, including proactively advising on strategies to address gaps and mitigate risks.
  • Monitoring and developing strategies to manage the Americas effective tax rate.
  • Overseeing tax controversy, audits, and reviews, including liaising with tax authorities and external advisors.
  • Driving operational efficiencies through automation, process improvements, and innovative ways of working.
  • Upholding the highest standards of integrity and supporting the Enterprise Tax Leader in building an efficient tax function, including delivering the Global Tax Strategy and ensuring compliance.

The role can be based in several GHD office locations in Canada and the U.S., supporting a hybrid work model.

With an energetic and dedicated team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and identifying business needs as a business partner, providing commercial tax advice and training.
  • Analyzing new business/revenue streams for tax treatment and strategies.
  • Participating in Mergers and Acquisitions tax due diligence.
  • Monitoring and managing the Americas effective tax rate.
  • Keeping abreast of tax legislation changes and advising on impacts and strategic responses.
  • Educating finance and business partners on relevant tax legislation changes.
  • Supporting R&D/SR&ED tax incentive programs in collaboration with finance and external advisors.
  • Working with Mobility and Secretariat teams on employee and shareholder tax issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with local tax laws and filing requirements.
  • Assessing tax risks and compliance gaps, providing recommendations to mitigate risks.

Experience and knowledge required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, with equivalent experience plus 15 years in accounting/business operations.
  • CPA designation and/or master's degree in accounting, taxation, or related field (strongly preferred).

Preferred:

  • Experience in Big 4 firms or similar roles in large multinational corporate tax environments.
  • Business proficiency in Spanish, with the ability to discuss accounting and tax matters with native speakers.
