Job summary

EY in Toronto is seeking a Tax Litigation Associate to join our national team of tax specialists. You will assist clients in responding to audits, prepare notices of objection and represent the firm in tax disputes.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of income tax and tax litigation experience, is a member in good standing of the Law Society, and demonstrates strong English proficiency. EY offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package and a clear path for career progression.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience with income tax, sales tax, and other taxes.
  • Prior tax litigation experience is an asset.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Canada's income tax, sales tax, or other Canadian tax systems.
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of their province.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in responding to federal and provincial audits and strategically advise on options to resolve tax disputes.
  • Prepare notices of objection and written representations to federal and provincial tax authorities.
  • Assist with litigation in resolving tax disputes, including court appeals and other administrative processes.
  • Assist with preparing legal opinions on tax consequences of transactions and post-transaction audits.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Assist clients in responding to federal and provincial audits and strategically advise clients on the various options and steps in resolving tax disputes
  • Prepare notices of objection and written representations to the federal and provincial tax authorities
  • Assist with the litigation in resolving tax disputes, including court appeals, judicial review applications, and other administrative processes such as voluntary disclosures, taxpayer relief applications, ruling requests, and remission orders
  • Assist with the preparation of legal opinions with respect to the tax consequences of transactions and performing post-transaction audits for tax efficacy and litigation risk.
Skills And Attributes For Success
  • The ideal candidate will have 2+ years' experience with income tax, sales tax, and other taxes
  • Prior tax litigation experience is an asset
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have strong foundational knowledge of Canada's income tax, sales tax, or other Canadian tax systems.
  • The candidate should be a member in good standing of the Law Society of their province of residence.
  • Proficiency in English.

EY reports salary ranges in accordance with applicable provincial pay transparency legislation. Individual salaries within the anticipated salary ranges noted below are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skill sets.

  • Toronto: $115,000 to $165,000
