Software Engineering Intern – Tax Technology, Automation & Process Improvement

About CAE

For more than 75 years, CAE has helped make the world safer through innovative training, digital solutions, and mission-critical technologies. With employees and operations across multiple regions, CAE supports customers worldwide through advanced technologies, data-driven solutions, and continuous innovation.

About the Tax Team

CAE’s Tax team is composed of professionals specialized in Canadian, U.S. and international tax, transfer pricing, indirect taxes and tax compliance. By joining this team, you will have a role dedicated to process improvement, automation, data management and the adoption of new technologies within a large corporate tax function.

Position Summary

Work location: Montréal, Quebec — CAE Côte-de-Liesse site.

Work model: hybrid, with a minimum of two days per week in the office.

Internship period and duration: January 4 to April 23, 2027, with the possibility of extending to an eight-month internship.

Hours per week: 40.

This internship offers a rare opportunity for a software engineering, computer science, data analytics or information systems student to contribute to the technology transformation of CAE’s Tax team, at the Quebec headquarters of an international public company.

The role does not require a primary background in tax or finance; we are looking for someone curious, structured and motivated by technology who wants to help a specialized business team adopt new tools and modernize the way it works.

You will work with the Tax team and internal partners, including Global Finance Systems & Support, to transform the way the Tax team works. The objective is to identify, prioritize and automate as many repetitive tasks, follow-ups, approval flows, templates, dashboards and documentation processes as possible, based on the team’s needs and your technical capabilities.

What You Will Work On
  • Analyze current Tax team processes to identify repetitive tasks, manual follow-ups, approvals, working files and friction points that could be simplified or automated.
  • Design, prototype or improve practical solutions for the team, such as workflows, forms, SharePoint lists, dashboards, tracking tools, templates or simple internal applications.
  • Participate in projects using tools such as Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio or other internal solutions based on the team’s needs and the intern’s level of autonomy.
  • Help structure the Tax team’s knowledge so procedures, deadlines, recurring requests, audit trails and reference information are easier to find and reuse.
  • Explore use cases for agents, generative AI, intelligent search or automation to improve access to information and reduce repetitive administrative tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Tax team, GFSS and other internal partners to understand business needs, test solutions, collect feedback and support adoption of new tools.
  • Document solutions, business rules, workflows, procedures and best practices so improvements can be maintained and reused after the internship.

We are looking for a curious, organized and collaborative student who enjoys solving concrete problems, learning new technologies and working with business users to design simple, useful and sustainable solutions.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in software engineering, computer science, data analytics, information systems, business intelligence or a related field.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and collaborate with business and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience or exposure to any of the following would be considered an asset: experience or interest in Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate, Power Apps and Power BI.
