Overview

We are seeking a Tax Director to oversee tax compliance and planning strategies. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, this role will be instrumental in managing tax provisions, regulatory compliance, and M&A tax strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies that align with the company’s financial goals.
  • Oversee quarterly and annual tax provision processes, including calculations and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations.
  • Manage the preparation and filing of corporate income tax, sales tax, and payroll tax returns.
  • Conduct financial audits to assess accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Lead the budgeting process related to tax planning and compliance.
  • Provide tax support for M&A activities, including strategy, due diligence, and integration planning.
  • Collaborate with external advisors and regulatory bodies for audits and tax-related matters.
  • Research and implement new tax regulations impacting the business.
  • Partner with internal departments to provide training and guidance on tax implications.
  • Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support ad hoc projects and special assignments as required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation required; Master’s in Tax or In-depth Tax Program (at least Level 1) preferred.
  • 10+ years of corporate tax experience, with expertise in M&A tax and large project management.
  • Strong ability to align tax strategies with business objectives.
  • Experience managing relationships with third-party tax consultants and auditors.
  • Advanced accounting, analytical, and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, sumifs) and tax software.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, confident in engaging with senior leadership.
  • A results-driven, problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
