Job summary

The North West Company seeks a Tax Associate to prepare and review personal income tax returns, and to support clients with tax-related inquiries. You will help assign returns to preparers, review documents, and ensure timely filings, working with established tax policies.

Qualified candidates will have formal tax training, a year of tax office experience, and strong Excel/Outlook skills. This role is based at our Winnipeg location and reports to the Associate Manager, Tax Services.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing personal income tax returns. Asset: Northern Residents Deduction, Northern Residents Travel Deduction, Status Indians, Quebec tax return prep.
• Formal tax training with at least one year in a tax preparation office
• Active CRA My Account and Rep ID
• Proficiency with tax software programs; DT Max experience an asset
• Strong computer skills; MS Excel and Outlook accuracy and speed
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; high attention to detail
• Reliable, adaptable, able to work with minimal supervision; willing to work extra hours/weekends

In your role as a Tax Associate, you will provide advice and support related to the payment and reporting of income taxes, and the completion of tax returns and other tax-related documents.

Your Role:

• Prepare and review personal income tax returns in a timely manner
• Assign tax returns to tax preparers in a timely manner
• Answer tax inquiries over the phone, email, and fax from internal and external customers
• Review and process documentation to support tax return filings
• Apply defined practices, procedures, and company policies to troubleshoot and resolve product and tax support customer inquiries
• Administrative related tasks

Qualifications, Required Skills, & Experience:

• Experience preparing personal income tax returns. Experience with Northern Residents Deduction, Northern Residents Travel Deduction, Status Indians, and experience in Quebec tax return preparation an asset
• Formal tax training with at least one year of experience working in tax preparation office
• Active CRA My Account and Rep ID
• Business Accountancy Diploma or Accounting Degree, and/or appropriate professional experience
• Proficiency using tax preparation’s software programs. Experience with DT Max software an asset
• Strong computer skills; proficiency in MS Excel and Outlook
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Reliable
• Ability to adapt to change quickly
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Availability to adjust hours, and work additional hours and weekends as business requires
