Job summary

The North West Company is seeking an Inventory Control Accounting Clerk (internally known as Inventory Control Clerk) to maintain merchandise information and provide accurate inventory results for store operations in Winnipeg, MB. The role reports to the Inventory Control Supervisor and involves partnership with the Inventory Accounting team.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of related accounting experience or a combination of education and experience in a related field.
• Experience in account reconciliation and data entry preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel, is required.
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail with strong organizational, planning and prioritizing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and assignments under strict deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide superior customer service to internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of store receiving and inventory procedures and systems (Corporate Radar, Retek, PeopleSoft) is an asset.
• Must be available to work overtime as required.
• Ability to communicate in French is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Review Central Receiving documents to ensure compliance with policies and resolve discrepancies.
• Communicate with stores for receipt of weekly receiving registers and follow up on missing packing slips and inventory results.
• Analyze and adjust preliminary and stock ledger reports to reflect proper markup percentages and investigate irregular markups or markdown errors.
• Reconcile store monthly stock ledger transactions with the general ledger for sales, end-of-period stock levels, and COGS.
• Calculate and distribute store food and general merchandise inventory results on annual/quarterly bases.
• Respond to store and management queries.

In your role as the Inventory Control Accounting Clerk (internally known as Inventory Control Clerk) at The North West Company (TNWC) for the Inventory Accounting team; you are responsible for maintaining merchandise information to provide accurate and timely inventory results for store operations.

Your Role:

• Review food and general merchandise Central Receiving documents to ensure the stores are complying with Central Receiving policies and action any discrepancies.
• Communicate with stores for receipt of weekly receiving registers, and follow up on missing packing slips, claims, and clarification of documents and inventory results.
• Analyze and adjust preliminary and stock ledger reports to reflect proper cumulative markup percentages, note and investigate all irregular markups that exceed the predetermined markup guidelines, and investigate errors in markdowns.
• Reconcile and balance store monthly stock ledger transactions to the general ledger for sales, end of period stock levels, and cost of goods sold.
• Calculate, analyze, and distribute store food inventory results on a quarterly, semi-annual, and annual basis.
• Calculate, analyze, and distribute, store general merchandise inventory results on an annual basis.
• Respond to store and management queries.

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Must possess 1 to 2 years of related accounting experience or a combination of education and experience in a related field.
• Previous experience in account reconciliation and data entry preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office products with a focus on Microsoft Excel is required.
• Must possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail along with proven organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and assignments while adhering to strict deadlines.
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service to all levels of internal and external customers.
• Previous knowledge of store receiving and inventory procedures and systems such as Corporate Radar, Retek, and Peoplesoft is an asset.
• Must be available to work overtime as required.
• Ability to communicate in French is an asset.
