We have a career opportunity for a Tax Analyst who specializes in sales and indirect taxes (sales taxes). You will prepare sophisticated federal GST/HST returns, provincial sales tax returns, insurance, and premium tax returns for the Aviva Canada group of insurance and non-insurance companies. As part of the Tax team, you will assist with tax authorities’ and external audits related to tax compliance. Additionally, you will be involved in determining tax provisions, monitoring sales tax continuities, ensuring accurate tax installment computations and remittances, and preparing relevant entries into accounting and banking systems.

What you'll do:

  • Handle sales and indirect tax compliance for the Aviva Canada Group, including preparing provincial sales tax returns and information forms;
  • Prepare insurance sales tax and premium tax returns;
  • Assist in sales tax submissions for the Insurance Bureau of Canada;
  • Quantify sales tax expenses for the group to complete sales tax installments, remittances, and schedules;
  • Build sales tax entries into accounting and financial systems, and reconcile accounting entries with actual payments and assessments;
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects involving income and indirect taxes.

What you'll bring:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting/finance is an asset;
  • Professional accounting designation or CPA program enrollment is an asset;
  • 1-2 years of accounting experience, including co-op and internships;
  • Experience in tax or accounting firms specializing in indirect tax (GST/HST, Provincial Sales Tax) is an asset;
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision;
  • Proficiency in Excel, database management, and accounting systems;
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit.
