Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Tax Analyst to join our team and play an important role in supporting a growing global engineering consultancy.

The Tax Analyst reports to the Manager, Finance & Tax and works closely with internal teams, external service providers, and business leaders. The role provides an opportunity to develop broad tax experience while contributing to compliance, financial reporting, regulatory requirements, and business initiatives.

The role offers significant exposure to international tax matters and cross-border operations across Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, the Dominican Republic, India, the United States, and Portugal, with opportunities to work in additional jurisdictions as the business continues to grow. International tax experience is an asset but is not required. Candidates with a strong technical and analytical foundation, curiosity, attention to detail, an interest in developing their international tax knowledge, and a demonstrated ability to learn and adapt quickly are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tax analysis support related to contracts, regulatory matters, and business initiatives.

  • Support domestic and international tax compliance activities, including permanent establishment exposure, withholding taxes, intercompany transactions, and treaty relief.

  • Maintain the global tax compliance calendar, monitor filing and payment deadlines, and identify changes in Canadian and international tax requirements that may affect KCB’s operations.

  • Coordinate with external advisors and regulatory authorities for multiple branches/entities.

  • Compile related-party transaction tax reporting information, including support for transfer pricing documentation.

  • Support the establishment and accounting administration of offshore entities to ensure compliance with global financial and legal requirements.

  • Prepare quarterly and year-end income tax provisions and supporting working papers, as required.

  • Assist with Research & Development (R&D) tax incentive claims in multiple jurisdictions, including the preparation of supporting calculations, working papers, and documentation.

  • Prepare and coordinate monthly and quarterly excise, commodity and indirect tax filings, including VAT, GST/HST, PST and U.S. sales and use tax returns, together with applicable reconciliations and self-assessment calculations.

  • Coordinate with third-party accounting service providers to ensure statutory financial statements are prepared and filed accurately and on time.

  • Support responses to tax audits, reviews, notices, and inquiries from tax authorities by gathering, analyzing, and organizing required information in a timely manner.

  • Liaise with external auditors during statutory audits.

  • Prepare account reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies to maintain accurate financial and tax records.

  • Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of tax compliance and reporting processes.

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however request the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or nearing completion of the CPA program is preferred.

  • 3+ years of relevant tax experience, preferably in a mid-sized to large corporate environment or in public accounting.

  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian corporate tax principles, with international or cross-border tax experience considered an asset.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with BST11 or a similar ERP system is an asset.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and consistently deliver accurate, high-quality work during critical reporting and tax compliance periods.

  • Proactive and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving, with the ability to identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and recommend appropriate actions.

  • Ability to work independently on assigned responsibilities, recognize when issues require escalation, and collaborate effectively with colleagues across different business units and jurisdictions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to new subject areas, and research unfamiliar tax or regulatory requirements.

  • Familiarity with, or an interest in learning and using, generative AI and automation technologies to enhance tax research and streamline tax processes.
