Job summary

The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is seeking a curious analyst to support the operation of the tariff for connection projects in Alberta. This full-time role focuses on the ISO tariff application, accommodating a variable-paced, case-by-case environment and offering career growth and development opportunities.

AESO provides a hybrid work model with in-office presence on Tue–Thu and flexible options on Mon and Fri.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, business, economics, mathematics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional working experience.
  • Understanding of electric utilities would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work with AESO teams to advance connection projects and ensure ISO tariff is followed and costs allocated accurately.
  • Review and process customer requests for waivers.
  • Monitor and analyze customer data for reporting and reassessment.
  • Support tariff design and internal tariff processes with the design team.
  • Build relationships with internal teams to understand tariff interactions.
  • Support other deliverables as required.

Job Description

The AESO is at the forefront of the energy transition, and this is your opportunity to make a mark on the Alberta electricity industry. We are seeking a curious analyst to join our team to support the operation of the tariff to ensure that it’s applied fairly and consistently. This role will focus on the connection project-side of the ISO tariff, which can be variable paced and case-by-case in nature. This full-time opportunity offers a competitive salary. We support a hybrid work environment, where the team is in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays are flexible for where you work best.

Accountabilities include:
  • Work with internal AESO teams to advance connection projects. This includes ensuring that the ISO tariff is being followed and applied properly, and reviewing how project costs are allocated for accuracy.
  • Review and process customer requests for waivers.
  • Monitor and analyze customer data for reporting and reassessment.
  • Support the design side of our team by implementing changes to the tariff, and designing internal tariff processes.
  • Build relationships with internal teams to understand their unique perspectives and interactions with the ISO tariff.
  • Support other deliverables, as required.

You have:
  • An undergraduate degree in engineering, business, economics, mathematics or equivalent, or experience equivalent to a degree or designation.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional working experience.
