The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta’s interconnected power grid and also facilitate Alberta’s competitive wholesale electricity market. The AESO strives to foster an inclusive, diverse and equitable workplace where people feel respected and welcomed for who they are, together we deliver high performance and innovative results.
Alberta's wholesale electricity market restructuring is one of the most significant changes to the electricity market in a generation. The Restructured Energy Market (REM) has been designed and the work of bringing it to life is just beginning.
The AESO's Market Design team is looking for a Market Design Analyst to help lead that effort. This is where policy becomes reality: taking the market design and working through the technical details that implementation requires. That means specifying how core market mechanisms will need to function, like how dispatch logic translates into settlement processes. It means working as part of a team to move the REM design forward, in alignment with the organization and with industry.
The decisions made in this role will be embedded in how Alberta's electricity market operates for the future. You will wield your expertise in economics, business, or engineering to shape the development of Alberta's electricity market. If you're drawn to technically demanding work and you want to be part of something that doesn't come around often in this industry, here is your opportunity.
This full-time opportunity offers a competitive salary. We also have paid vacation and flex time, health and dental benefits, mental health support, a defined contribution pension plan, and learning and development opportunities as part of your overall compensation package. We support a hybrid work environment, where the team is in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays are flexible for where you work best.
