Job Responsibilities

The Tailings & Water Engineer is responsible for technical and operational tasks at the Tailings Management Facility (TMF) and Water Management Facilities (WMF) at the Côté Gold site. Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and calibrating the site-wide water balance.
  2. Running water balance simulations for various scenarios.
  3. Coordinating with the Designer-of-Record (DOR).
  4. Conducting tailings deposition modelling.
  5. Reviewing tailings property data to ensure conformance with design.
  6. Coordinating with the Engineer-of-Record (EOR) for technical information.
  7. Conducting regular technical inspections of dam structures.
  8. Coordinating with tailings and water technicians for safe operations.
  9. Inspecting water management infrastructure in the Open Pit.
  10. Monitoring water and geotechnical data.
  11. Collaborating with mill & mine operations and other departments.
  12. Maximizing safe and effective operation of the facilities.
  13. Acting as deputy Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Tailings & Water Technical Support

  • Develop and update site-wide water balance.
  • Work with DOR to implement the tailings deposition plan.
  • Conduct regular dam inspections.
  • Support risk assessments.
  • Assist mine operations with pit dewatering plans.
  • Ensure TMF compliance with applicable standards.
  • Coordinate with DOR and EOR for technical information.
  • Understand tailings & water processes for effective operations.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment.
  • Engage with vendors and contractors as required.

Safe and Effective Tailings & Water Operation

  • Proactively identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Identify and mitigate safety and environmental hazards.
  • Coordinate with technicians to resolve operational issues.
  • Monitor and inspect safety and performance of dams.
  • Support ongoing tailings dam construction as needed.
  • Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Inspect dam instrumentation regularly.
  • Ensure design conformance in water management infrastructure.
  • Review and understand the Operation, Surveillance and Maintenance manual.
  • Understand the overall tailings & water system for operational success.

Collaborating Effectively with Team Members

  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Communicate effectively using provided tools.
  • Ensure deficiencies are communicated for follow-up.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Engage in morning safety huddles.
  • Ensure accurate and complete shift cross over notes.

Safety & Sustainability Expectations

  • Observe and report unsafe conditions.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • A college diploma or university degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Driving experience on mine sites around heavy equipment.

Additional Qualifications

  • Exposure to tailings & water management design, construction, and operation.
  • Previous experience with tailings and water dams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Goldsim, Muk3D, and ArcGIS is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license in Canada.
  • Self-motivated and driven to find solutions.
