Job summary

Hatch is seeking a Tailings co-op student in our Tailings Group in Metals for a position starting in January 2027. Reporting to the Lead of Tailings you will support local and international projects working from our Mississauga Head Office.

You will gain hands-on experience on complex projects, collaborate with diverse teams locally and globally, and apply your academic learning on real projects. The role offers mentorship from industry leaders and exposure to site investigations, with

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited Civil/Geotechnical Engineering program.
  • Good written and verbal English language skills.
  • Interest in tailings and geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with tailings or mine closure projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of GeoStudio, AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for mine waste projects from pre-feasibility to detailed engineering.
  • Support planning site investigations for mine waste facilities.
  • Assist senior staff with business development and client proposals.

Responsibilities:


  • Providing engineering support for mine waste projects in pre-feasibility through to detailed engineering and operational support type projects;

  • Supporting planning and executing site investigations for mine waste facilities;

  • Supporting senior staff in business development and marketing to existing and new Hatch clients in the mining sector, preparation of expressions of interest and proposals.


Education and Experience:


  • Enrolled in a Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Program from an accredited university

  • Good written and verbal English language skills;

  • Strong interest in civil/hydrotechnical/geotechnical engineering or tailings process design

  • Experience working on tailings or water or mine closure projects;

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams;

  • Experience in geotechnical computer software packages such as GeoStudio and gINT

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D;

  • Site based geotechnical or construction field experience;

  • Working knowledge of local mine waste guideline with exposure to the permitting process in Ontario;

Compensation:

Range: $26.00 - $33.00


At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.


Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location. In addition to base pay, our total rewards package may include performance-based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs designed to support your well-being and growth.
