Job description

Dexter Construction Company is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently looking for a Class 3 Tack Truck Driver to join our Bedford Operations.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Foreman, the Tack Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt distributor truck used to apply liquid asphalt on roadways. This position is also responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining the equipment. This position is approximately 30% driving and 70% labour work.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Set spray bar distributors for applying liquid asphalt;
  • Apply liquid from distributor to designated area with high attention to detail;
  • Advise the Foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs;
  • Perform manual labor, such as shoveling or raking;
  • Be aware of surroundings at all times;
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
  • Ensure safety of fellow employees;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, And Experience

  • 2 years similar experience in a construction environment;
  • Valid Class 3 Drivers License with the ability to drive manual;
  • Mechanical knowledge is an asset;
  • Must have basic math knowledge to figure out spreads;
  • Must be able to work long hours and travel out of town as required. Company accommodations are provided when travel is required.
  • Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules and code of conduct;
  • Willingness to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly;
  • Working safely is a condition of employment.

Working Conditions

The Tack Truck Driver has a physically strenuous and demanding job working with hot asphalt mix. This position will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy objects, requiring the use of PPE, Hardhat, Steel Toe Boots, and a reflective vest to minimize risk on the worksite.
