Job summary

Chilliwack School District No. 33 seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist for itinerant work across several schools, afternoons only (50% part-time). You will collaborate with the Speech and Language Team to assess, plan and provide language supports, including AAC, as needed.

A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and eligibility for BC College membership are required; a valid BC driver’s license and car are essential for travel between sites.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a recognized university.
  • Eligible for membership in the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.
  • Experience supporting students with speech and language needs in an educational setting (preferred).
  • Ability to work itinerantly across multiple schools with a vehicle and BC driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with School Based Teams to deliver Speech and Language Services.
  • Assess, plan, and provide intervention programs for students with communication needs.
  • Support assessment, training, use and maintenance of AAC for students with complex needs.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and district staff.

Salary Range: $63,347 to $116,190 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: Immediately, until not later than June 30, 2027

Required Abilities, Qualifications And Experience

Please Note: As this is an itinerant position, the successful applicant must have a car and a valid BC driver's license

  • Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • a Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology from a recognized university
  • must be eligible for membership in the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC
  • demonstrated ability to support students with speech and language needs by:
  • working collaboratively as part of a Speech and Language Team to collectively deliver Speech and Language Services effectively and equitably within the School District
  • supporting the assessment, training, use and maintenance of Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC) for students with complex communication needs.
  • Assist School Teams with the identification and prioritization of Speech-Language needs within their school population through consultation with School Based Teams
  • identifying, assessing and evaluating children with possible significant communicative impairments referred by School Based Teams
  • planning, developing, providing or directing appropriate and effective intervention programs (individually, in the classroom or in small groups as appropriate)
  • demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with School Based Teams, including parents, School District personnel and outside agencies and professionals regarding the student's needs in the classroom and other school and home environments
  • demonstrated ability to consult with teachers, parents, and other school personnel within the framework of Response to Intervention (RTI)
  • proven interpersonal skills in order to develop excellent working relationships with school staff and parents
  • proven ability to develop and support home and school based programs
  • demonstrated ability to develop and present in-service to school district personnel and parents
  • demonstrated ability to collaborate, with the Speech and Language team, a method of service delivery that includes: caseload selection and scheduling, record keeping, evaluating programs, developing instructional materials and scheduling and supervising speech-language assistants
  • demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing for information and clarity
  • experience working in an educational setting and with students with Disabilities or Diverse Abilities preferred
